Bernadette Burke is a lifelong lover of music. When she was growing up, her parents preferred to have music playing around the house as opposed to TV; Bernadette began singing and dancing as soon as she could walk and talk. She was enamored with the folk music and pageantry of the Philadelphia Mummers String Band that her father was involved in. She received her first piano for Christmas when she was 6 years old, and promptly played a "Happy Birthday" song to Jesus! Since then, with the support of her music teachers, she participated in South Jersey Region Choirs, NJ All-State Choirs, ACDA All-Eastern Choir, Rutgers Opera Company, Rutgers University Marching Band, and was a chosen soloist with the Rutgers University Kirkpatrick Choir.
A graduate of Rutgers University (BM '16), and Montclair State University (MM '24), Ms. Burke has since taught Vocal Music, Chorus, General Music, and Musical Theater to students in grades K-8. She has led the charge for many concerts, talent shows, and musicals throughout the years. Her students have earned spots in competitive local groups such as CJMEA Regions Choir, NJACDA Junior All-State Choir, and the New Jersey Youth Chorus, and her choirs have been selected to perform for local sporting events such as Rutgers University Womens' Basketball!
In 2020, she maintained a virtual private lesson studio, providing instruction in Voice and Piano for students from age 5 to 55 years old! In 2022, she became certified as a Kids' Music Round instructor through Miss Sheila and friends. She fell in love with the joyful music she could share through family music classes with students as young as 4 months old!
She is thrilled to offer her services to bring the music and fun to your child's birthday party, enhance their musical skills through summer private lessons, or provide support for emerging high school and college music theory students.
